Manblogging

My wife, Potato Girl, maintains a comprehensive list of blogging friends on the right side of her layout. I enjoy keeping up on what friends are doing, so I occasionally click through her list. It's pretty clear that, at least in our circle of married friends, blogging is a predominantly female occupation. Even though the blog is titled something like "The SURNAME Family Newsletter" or "Adventures of the SURNAMEs" or "SURNAMEpalooza," it's usually obvious that Mr. SURNAME has zero input/interest in the blog.

Why is this? Maybe because Mrs. SURNAME is likely to be a stay-at-home mom with a little more time for blogging? Maybe because women generally place higher value on maintaining connections with old friends? Maybe because blogging seems closely analogous to that most feminine of all the domestic arts, scrapbooking?

Whatever the case may be, I'd like to hear more often from the other side of the aisle. To encourage this, I'm establishing a manblog-roll by going through Potato Girl's list to see which blogs have manly input. My threshold is pretty low--any blog that has had a post by the male of the species in the last 6 months or so will make the cut. I don't want to leave anyone off the list--leave a comment if you're a manblogger who wants to join the revolution.

Don't forget the EJ News!

Also, Jason's totally offended that you didn't notice his "manly" father and sons campout post. That was all him! :)

Since the EJ News is a private blog, I'm leaving it off my sidebar. Plus, I'm not sure a 9-year-old qualifies as a ManBlogger.

I do stand corrected on the Hansen blog, and I'm adding it to the list even though Jason posted under the distinctly unmanly handle of "carolyn hansen." The content made up for it, though--camping is undoubtedly one of the manliest activities imaginable.

funny you should write this . I was just thinking this morning about how with my siblings, its primarily the women who do the blogging. I know of just 2 other couples besides greg and I who have separate husband/wife blogs- you and our friends the Newmans. I think on our case it is that Greg really enjoys writing and it is a release for him, while I am more about documenting activities. Before I started my blog, I had toyed with the idea of having his blog becomng our blog. That didnt last long!! Anyway long live the man blog revolution.

Dan-- I have a proposition for you. I would like you to be a guest writer on my new Ann Arbor blog. I know--it's very exciting, and a great honor, but what do you think? I have a list of subjects and I'd like to discuss which one you would like to own. :)

I just keep patiently waiting for the manbloggin to resume. It's a little disappointing the RATE of manblogging that happens these days.

I'd like to join the man-blog movement. I have blogged 4 or 5 times in the last 6 months, so I think I qualify. My best blog was "Spiderman Adventures" back in June.
